MTV has cast its first lead in its upcoming fantasy series Shannara.

When Calls the Heart actress Poppy Drayton has landed a lead role as Elf Princess Amberle, EW has confirmed.

The 10-episode drama series, written by Smallville duo Al Gough and Miles Millar, is based on the fantasy books by Terry Brooks, considered one of the most popular fantasy series in history. Set thousands of years after our civilization has been destroyed, the series follows the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world.

Season 1 will be based on The Elfstones Of Shannara, the second title in Brooks’ series.

According to Deadline, who first reported the news, Drayton’s Amberle is “agile, fit and capable” and is the first woman to become one of the Chosen, who are responsible for the protection and care of the ancient Ellcrys tree. “But unlike the rest of the Chosen, Amberle’s dangerous and heroic journey is just beginning,” Deadline writes.

Jonathan Liebesman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will direct the first two episodes. He’ll also executive produce the series alongside Gough, Millar, Brooks, Dan Farah, and Jon Favreau (Iron Man).

Mah, dovranno mettere un pò di "spiegoni" sugli eventi del 1mo libro immagino e/o una sorta di "recap" inziale; cmq mi pare una mossa sbagliata partire da un sequel senza l'incipt (vabbè che volendo uno si rivede LOTR e bene o male ci siamo :P ) ma forse davvero non vogliono iniziare con un qualcosa che li sputtanerebbe al grande pubblcio come plagio... comunque vada, sarà un (in?) successo ^_^'

The actor has booked a series regular role on MTV's Shannara, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Shannara takes place in a world set thousands of years after the destruction of civilization as we know it. The 10-episode adaptation of Terry Brooks' book series follows the Shannara family, who are able to tap into ancient magic and whose adventures help reshape the world's future. Season one is based on The Elfstones of Shannara, the second title in Brooks' series

Bennett will play Allanon, a druid who is the last of his kind in the world of Shannara. He is described as a wise, perceptive and serious man who knows something incredibly important has begun when the wise tree Ellcrys starts to die. He enlists Wil (Austin Butler) to fulfill his destiny and save the four lands.

Spanish actress Ivana Baquero is headed to MTV's Shannara.

 

Baquero,who gave a stirring performance in Pan's Labyrinth as a child, has been cast in the fantasy adaptation, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

 

Baquero will play Eretria, a human described as being from from the wrong side of the tracks. Raised by a group of thieves called The Rovers, she has had to use her good looks to survive. After rescuing Wil (Austin  Butler) from danger, she stumbles into being part of Amberle’s (Poppy Drayton) journey to save the Four Lands.

The Lord of the Rings alum John Rhys-Davies has joined the cast of the Viacom-owned cable network's buzzy adaptation, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Rhys-Davies will play King Eventine, Amberle's (Poppy Drayton) grandfather, who has ruled the Elvin kingdom of Arborlon for decades, flanked by his sons Arion and Ander. Eventine has done questionable things to keep the Four Lands at peace, but when his beloved granddaughter is chosen to fulfill a dangerous destiny, his path is changed as well.

Piccola confessione ^^

Come probabilmente si sara' capito, sono uno di quelli che prendono 'metrature' di libri, 'metrature' di dvd, etc per interesse complessivo ma tendenzialmente non leggo/vedo subito ma anche dopo anni.

 

"tecnicamente" nonostante avessi i soliti LOTR etc etc etc, io ero piu' un appassionato di fantascienza (ho ancora Jim Digriz nel cuore, btw)

 

dicevo, "tecnicamente"... il mio primo libro fantasy (inteso come 'letto') e' stato proprio la Spada di Shannara ^^

Il motivo e' davvero curioso, in quanto non ricordo piu' per quale ragione mi era stato prestato da un amico (che si era anche dimenticato dentro mille lire circa o una banconota comunque, come segnalibro).

 

Quindi, per quanto davvero strano, il mio 'imprinting' fantasy era stato davvero con la saga di Shannara^^

(poi ho recuperato qualche altro migliaio di tomi, ma quello e' un discorso successivo).

 

Tutto cio' per dire che... mi stanno girando un po' le palle a vede' certe cose ^__________^

Per me é stato il secondo imprinting subito dopo La cittá del Nulla di David Eddings, a cui sono seguiti presto gli altri libri di Brooks...

Certo io stesso non avrei pensato a Manu Bennett per il ruolo di Allanon, anche se la scelta non mi dispiace. Il perché abbiano scelto quel look fa il paio con il perché siano partiti da Le Pietre Magiche invece che con La Spada, anche se leggendo il libro ci si potrebbe fare un'idea.
