I due editor hanno più o meno smentito (“La nostra storia non ha bisogno di essere aggiustata”) l’approssimarsi di un reboot e hanno cercato di illustrare l’evento pianificato da Jonathan Hickman con una metafora culinaria: Alonso ha paragonato Terra 616, l’Universo Ultimate e le altre realtà parallele create nel corso di decenni a delle pizze con condimenti diversi che verranno (per colpa delle “incursioni” che stanno avvenendo in questi mesi sulle testate sceneggiate da Hickman) a scontrarsi e si fonderanno in un’unica pizza. Alcuni condimenti (personaggi?) cadranno, altri rimarranno e conviveranno fianco a fianco. Per la cronaca, i teaser di questi mesi hanno mostrato a malapena la metà dei “contendenti”.

“I think like with any idea, the execution will matter more than the idea itself. The idea of a reset is, by itself, not a bad idea,” Conway said. “The only issue creatively is to be consistent in however you choose to define it. Make sure it doesn’t feel patched together.”

 

Simonson is a longtime fan, having discovered Marvel comics in 1965 at a tobacco store near his college. He bought 11 titles a month at 12 cents a pop. “And that was $1.32 even a college student could afford,” he said. He knows that change is part of the journey.

“As a fan, the Marvel Universe has changed enormously since the days when I was a major reader in college. Sometimes costumes, names, or backstories might be the same, usually they’re a little different. They’ve evolved over time. As a professional, I totally understand the idea of rebooting stuff, of trying to find a new way to tell stories. I separate my fan life from my professional life. I understand why they want to do it.”

 

Marvel seems reluctant to use words such as “reset” or “reboot,” though Marvel Senior VP of Publishing Tom Brevoort says that “The Marvel Universe as you know it is done.” The language seems in conflict, just as Conway feel some fans may feel internally.

 

“[Longtime DC Editor] Julie Schwartz once told me in the late ’60s or early ’70s when I was starting out that the average reader read comics for about three years. But that changed drastically right about the time Julie told me that,” Conway said. “Readers started staying around for five years, 10 years, now 20 years and more. And the problem is that existing readers want two different things: They want growth and change, but they don’t want it to be different. And these are two conflicting, horribly conflicting, notions.”

 

The notions may be divided by the very generations Conway speaks of.

 

“My guess is new fans will be okay with it, and old fans will grumble,” Romita said. “I’m not a businessman, but I do know that comic companies, for almost 100 years now, do whatever they can for shock value. They grab attention. Personally, I hate all the goofy things they do. When I was there, I used to fight stuff like this. But you can’t stop them.”

Indeed, the wheel of a new Marvel Universe is in motion. And Simonson is not one to rush to judgment.

 

“I’m an empirical guy,” he said. “Maybe this is coming back out of my old geology days, but I try not to have instant reactions to things and say, ‘Oh my God! That’s terrible!’ My basic reaction is usually ‘let’s see the evidence in the field.’ Let’s come back in a year and see what we’ve got. That will tell the story.”

 

But in 2015’s Twitter-fueled culture, instant reactions are all the rage. You don’t have to look far to find fans trotting out the old saw of “Marvel just ruined my childhood.” Conway has a message for them.

 

“I would say to them, no, your childhood is still your childhood. There’s a point to be made, and it’s a universal one: We have to see that there’s a difference between what people do today, and what they did yesterday. Yesterday still exists, those stories still exist. Now someone else is getting a chance at a new childhood. And that’s nice.”

1. Thunderstrike MC2 - The son of the original Thunderstrike, Kevin Masterson hails from the MC2 reality.

2. Old King Thor - This is clearly All-Father Thor from Jason Aaron's critically acclaimed Thor: God of Thunder.

3. Frog Thor - This fan favorite character is a normal frog who gained some of Thor's powers by picking up a sliver of Mjolnir.

4. Beta-Ray Bill - Beta-Ray Bill was a Korbinite warrior who was granted Stormbringer, a hammer of his own after besting Thor in combat.

5. Lord of Asgard - This is the armor Thor wore in his first turn as king of Asgard.

6. Thor - This new female Thor is the current wielder of Mjolnir on Earth 616.

7. Thordis - Thordis was a female version of Thor from a What If? story in which Jane Foster and not Donald Blake first wielded Mjolnir.

8. Thorm - "Thorm" is a common nickname given to Storm when she briefly wielded a fake version of Mjolnir created by Loki.

9. Thunderstrike - Eric Masterson was once host to Thor until he was granted his own powers be a mace named Thunderstrike.

*10. Thor is actually Loki, who became a hero after taking on Thor's identity in Universe X.

11. Horus - This alternate version of Thor appeared in a New Warriors tale that visited a world where ancient Egyptian culture was prevalent.

12. Fox Comics - This version of Thor was not a true God of Thunder, but a costumed hero published by Fox Comics who predates Marvel's Thor by almost 30 years.

13. Perun - Perun is the Slavic equivalent of Thor who fought Captain America.

14. Dargo Ktor - Dargo Ktor is a warrior from the future who inherited Thor's powers when he wielded Mjolnir.

15. Thor Girl - Thor Girl was an Avengers Initiative recruit who was replaced by a Skrull.

16. Red Norvell - Red Norvell was a filmmaker who gained super powers while creating a documentary about Asgard.

*17. This version of Thor was created by Simon and Kirby for a story in DC's Adventure Comics in 1942, 20 years before Lee and Kirby introduced Marvel's Thor.

18. Thrr, Dog of Thunder - Thrr hails from the funny animal inspired world of Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham

Nuova mini-serie tie-in dell’evento.

Prestigiosa aggiunta all’eventone Secret Wars 2015, e più specificatamente a Battleworld, Brian Michael Bendis ed il nostro Andrea Sorrentino riprenderanno infatti il “mondo” della seminale Old Man Logan di Mark Millar e Steve McNiven.

 

La mini partirà con un primo numero di 40 pagine, sarà leggibile indipendetemente dagli eventi della saga principale e sarà diretto seguito della serie originale.

Lo stesso giorno in cui la DC annuncia il tramonto dei New-52, la Marvel risponde con il lancio di A-Force, testata che da Maggio 2015, in pieno Secret Wars, vedrà riunirsi in un unico team le più grandi eroine della casa editrice: Da She-Hulk a Capitan Marvel, da Rogue a Nico Minoru (Runaways), più Medusa, Elektra, Vedova Nera e la nuova arrivata “cosmica” Singularity tra le altre. Stando alle prime informazioni, questo supergruppo nascerà dalle ceneri degli Avengers.

 

A scrivere A-Force saranno G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel) e Marguerite Bennett (Angela: Asgard’s Assassin), mentre ai disegni ci sarà Jorge Molina (X-Men). L’immagine promozionale che vedete qui sopra è di Jim Cheung.
